No. 6 Shoremen to Host Eastern in NCAA First Round Game Wednesday

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The sixth-ranked Washington College men's lacrosse team, champions of the Centennial Conference, will open the NCAA Division III Tournament at home against Eastern University in a first-round game Wednesday. The Shoremen are making their 31st all-time NCAA Tournament appearance and third in as many years.

The Shoremen will carry a 15-1 record into Wednesday's game, marking the first time in the team's illustrious history that they have entered an NCAA Tournament with fewer than two losses. Washington claimed its first Centennial Conference Championship since 2003 by defeating Franklin & Marshall, 14-6, in the league's championship game yesterday. Eastern is 14-4 on the season and won the Freedom Conference Championship game Saturday with a 12-5 victory over DeSales.

The winner of Wednesday's game between the Shoremen and Eastern will play the winner of Wednesday's first-round game between Lynchburg and Sewanee.

Last year, the Shoremen defeated Colorado College, 10-7, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament before falling to eventual National Champion Stevenson University, 17-13, in the second round. The Shoremen won the NCAA Division III National Championship in 1998 in their ninth and most recent NCAA Championship game appearance.

Wednesday's game will start at 7:00 p.m. Admission prices are $5.00 for the general public, $2.00 for students with college I.D., and free for children 12 and under. No advance admission will be sold and no re-entry will be allowed once inside Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium.
