Niswander & Weaver Named ITA Scholar-Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. — Two student-athletes from the Washington College men's tennis team have been named Scholar-Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Rising seniors John Niswander (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) and Luke Weaver (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) both qualified for the honor. 

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a student-athlete must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).

Niswander was also the Shoremen's representative on the 2017 Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship Team and posted a 2-1 record at No. 6 singles last season. Weaver earned 2017 All-Centennial Conference honorable mention in doubles and is a two-time Team Most Improved Player. He split time at No. 3 and No. 4 singles and No. 2 and No. 3 doubles last season.
