Junior is Shorewomen's First All-Region Selection in 13 Years
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Washington College junior softball pitcher Taylor Harcum (Hebron, Md./Mardela) has been named to the All-Atlantic Region third team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). She is the Shorewomen's first All-Region selection in 13 years.
Harcum, who was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year and was picked for the All-Centennial first team, had a standout season both in the circle and at the plate. In the circle, she went 12-7 with a 2.03 ERA. She tossed 10 complete games, hurled a pair of shutouts, and struck out a career-best 107 batters in 131 innings. She finished second in the conference in strikeouts, third in ERA and appearances (24), tied for fourth in wins, fifth in strikeouts per game (5.72), and seventh in complete games. At the plate, she finished the season second in the Centennial with a .419 average. She was second in the conference in sacrifice hits (8), third in on-base percentage (.460), sixth in slugging (.524), seventh in hits (44) and triples (2), eighth in runs (22) and 10th in total bases (55). Harcum led the Shorewomen in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging, innings pitched, complete games, strikeouts and ERA in 2017.
Prior to Harcum's selection, the Washington College softball team's most recent All-Region selection was Diane Green '06, who was named to the All-East Region second team in 2004.
