Bears' Big Run Fuels 49-41 Win Over Shorewomen

McLaughlin Scores 17 Points in Loss for Shorewomen

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Visiting Ursinus College went on a 15-0 run in the third quarter en route to a 49-41 Centennial Conference women's basketball win over host Washington College tonight inside Cain Athletic Center.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen scored the first four points of the game, but Ursinus ran off eight straight for an early 8-4 lead with 6:34 to play in the first quarter. The Shorewomen scored nine of the final 11 points in the quarter for a 13-10 lead after a Madeline Williams jumper ended the period's scoring with eight seconds left. 
- Washington twice extended the lead to four points in the second quarter before Ursinus evened the score at 16-16. The two teams exchanged baskets after that before Alexis Krahling drained a three-pointer to beat the halftime buzzer for a 23-20 Shorewomen lead at the break.
- The Shorewomen opened the third quarter with a 7-3 spurt to grab a 30-23 lead on a Bridget McLaughlin three-pointer with 6:39 left. Ursinus responded with 15 straight points, capped off by an Aliyah Stephens lay-up with 12 seconds left that gave the Bears a 38-30 advantage. Williams ended the run with a pair of free throws for Washington with one second to go in the period to get the Shorewomen back to within six points.
- A McLaughlin three with 7:28 remaining opened the fourth-quarter scoring and cut the Ursinus lead in half to 38-35. A Cassidy Quattro free throw with 5:28 left trimmed the deficit down to two at 38-36, but the Bears scored the next four points for a 42-36 lead on two Toni Suler free throws with 4:29 left. An Emily Thiemann jumper with 3:13 left and a McLaughlin three with 1:39 to go pulled the Shorewomen to within a single point at 42-21. Marisa Morano countered on the other end for the Bears by draining a three with 1:13 to go, extending the lead back to four at 45-41. Lydia Konstanzer added to the Bears' lead by making one of a pair of free throws with 32 seconds left. Stephens rebounded Konstanzer's miss on her second attempt, was fouled, and made both free throws with 29 seconds left for a 48-41 advantage. Konstanzer tacked on another free throw to provide the final margin. 

For the Shorewomen (4-4, 2-3 Centennial Conference)
- McLaughlin (17 points, 7 rebounds); Quattro (7 points, 7 rebounds); Krahling (7 points)
- The Shorewomen shot 29.6% from the field, 4-for-13 from three-point range, and 5-for-8 at the free-throw line. 

For Ursinus (5-3, 3-2 Centennial Conference)
- Konstanzer (14 points, 10 rebounds, 5 steals); Suler (9 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals, 4 blocks); Maya Kornfeld (9 points, 4 assists); Stephens (8 points, 9 rebounds)
- The Bears shot 30.4% from the field, 2-for-12 from three-point range, and 19-of-24 at the foul line. They also held a 39-37 rebounding advantage.

- McLaughlin was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player of the Game.
