#13 Shorewomen's 1V8 Places 2nd in Petite Final of Open Eights at Dad Vail

Shorewomen's Top Boat Places Eighth Overall

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The 13th-ranked Washington College women's rowing team competed at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia yesterday and today. It was the Shorewomen's final regatta before the NCAA Division III Championships later this month. The Shorewomen's first varsity eight competed in the women's open eights against several Division I crews, while the second varsity eight competed in the women's Division III eights. The Shorewomen also competed in the women's Division II/III varsity four.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen's first varsity eight placed 11th of 18 crews in the women's open eights time trial in 6:28.151 to advance to the semifinals. In their semifinal, they finished fourth in 6:52.762 to advance to the petite final. UMass won that semifinal (6:36.270), MIT was second (6:38.816), Grand Valley third (6:51.122), Duquesne fifth (6:52.817), and George Mason sixth (6:57.376). The Shorewomen were then second in the petite final in 6:42.321 for an eighth-place finish overall in that event. Purdue won the race in 6:40.050, Saint Joseph's was third (6:43.033), Duquesne fourth (6:45.607), George Mason fifth (6:49.506), and Middlebury sixth (6:49.945). The Shorewomen were the only varsity-level Division III crew in the women's open eights; the remainder of the field was comprised of boats from Division I programs or club programs.
- The Shorewomen's second varsity eight was third of four boats in the final-only women's Division III eights in 7:10.512. Coast Guard won the race in 6:51.563, Bryn Mawr was second in 7:04.996, and Cabrini was fourth in 7:51.336.
- The Shorewomen's entry in the women's Division II/III varsity fours was fourth in its heat in 9:25.846. to advance to the petite final. Jefferson won the heat (7:34.864), followed by Rollins in second (7:38.445) and Mercyhurst in third (7:50.100). They were then sixth in the petite final in 9:05.648. Franklin & Marshall won the petite final (7:36.882), North Park was second (7:48.050), Mercyhurst third (7:51.842), Nova Southeastern fourth (7:53.146), and Assumption fifth (8:09.093).
