The coxswain and eight rowers from the women's rowing team's first varsity eight share this week's Shorewoman of the Week honor after defeating Wellesley to open the spring racing season Saturday.
The fifth-ranked Shorewomen hosted third-ranked Wellesley Saturday morning in a race featuring each team's top two eights. In a course shortened to 1,500 meters due to a building crosswind and a snow squall, the Shorewomen's first varsity eight finished in 6:37.04, while Wellesley's top boat was second in 6:41.14.
Senior Christie Phebus (Trappe, Md./Easton) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's first varsity eight. Senior Kelly Bird (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) sat stroke, sophomore Madeleine Morrissette (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) was in the seven seat, senior Ashley Myles (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) was in the six seat, senior Mickey Fili (Sparks, Md./Hereford) sat in the five seat, senior Taira Sullivan (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) was in the four seat, sophomore Jackie Creitz (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) sat in the three seat, senior Krystal Brostek (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) was in the two seat, and sophomore Hannah Sive (Glenville, N.Y./Niskayuna) was the bow.
