Shoremen's First Varsity Eight Advances to Final, Places Sixth

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Washington College men's rowing team competed at the Kerr Cup in Philadelphia today and the Shoremen's first and second varsity eights finished sixth and fourth, respectively, in their events. 

The Shoremen's varsity eight placed second of six in its heat in 5:52.99. Villanova won the heat in 5:51.61, Fordham was third in 5:54.89, LaSalle fourth in 6:05.54, Franklin & Marshall fifth in 6:07.47, and Haverford sixth in 6:51.11. The Shoremen were then sixth of six boats in 5:53.15. Drexel won the race in 5:34.69, Lehigh was second in 5:42.21, Villanova third in 5:46.02, Saint Joseph's fourth in 5:47.90, and Fordham fifth in 5:49.10.

The Shoremen's second varsity eight finished fourth of six boats in its event. in 6:01.80. Drexel "A" won the race in 5:39.32, Drexel "B" was second in 5:54.80, Lehigh third in 5:56.89, Saint Joseph's fifth in 6:03.72, and Loyola sixth in 6:42.40. 

The Shoremen placed fourth of five boats in their heat of the men's varsity four in 6:48.06. Fordham won the heat in 6:29.21, Villanova "B" was second in 6:30.70, Loyola "A" third in 6:33.78, and Lafayette "B" fifth in 6:51.16

Seniors Joe Hemphill (Lexington, Va./Blue Ridge School) and Max Villa (Great Meadows, N.J./Pope John XXIII) competed in the varsity pair for the Shoremen and were fifth in their heat in 7:45.55. Drexel "B" won the heat in 7:09.33, Philadelphia University was second in 7:15.34, New York Maritime third in 7:19.84, Lafayette "B" fourth in 7:32.44, and LaSalle fifth in 8:35.16.

Sophomore John Gould (Litchfield, Conn./The Gunnery) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's entry in the varsity eight. Senior Conor Howlett (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) sat stroke, freshman Zee Ali (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) was in the seven seat, sophomore Ryan Miranda (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) was in the six seat, sophomore Sean Haynie (Hampstead, Md./Calvert Hall) sat in the five seat, junior Jack Christ (Hydes, Md./Jemicy Upper School) was in the four seat, sophomore Mark Boissonneault (Bowie, Md./DeMatha) sat in the three seat, senior Rob Billings (Easton, Md./Easton) was in the two seat, and senior Anthony Cairo (Port Murray, N.J./Warren Hills) was the bow.

Senior Chris Moylan (Silver Spring, Md./DeMatha) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's entry in the second varsity eight. Freshman Alexander Blue (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) sat stroke, junior Ben Sproule (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) was in the seven seat, freshman Teddy Connell (Chadds Fords, Pa./Unionville) sat in the six seat, sophomore T. Ian Flinn (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) was in the five seat, freshman Stuart Grosvenor (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) sat in the four seat, freshman Theo Aris (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) sat in the three seat, senior Chris Carrara (Leesburg, N.J./Millville) was in the two seat, and freshman Thomas Pring (Sarasota, Fla./Pine View) was the bow.

Senior Rebecca Wozniak (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's entry in the Division II/III varsity four. Sophomore Nathaniel Giblin (Cazenovia, N.Y./St. Johnsbury Academy [Vt.]) sat stroke, freshman Brady Bosworth (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) was in the three seat, sophomore Max van Hoven (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) sat in the two seat, and senior Dominic DiMarinio (Wilmington, Del./Concord) was the bow.

The Shoremen return to action next weekend at the Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships in Lewisberry, Pa.
