Meriot Wins in Singles and Doubles

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — The visiting Goucher College men's tennis team defeated host Washington College, 5-4, in a non-conference match this afternoon inside the Johnson Fitness Center. 

Goucher 5, Washington College 4

- Tetsuya Ota and Michael Herman gave the Gophers a 1-0 lead with an 8-6 victory over Chris Salisbury and Jake Sandler at No. 1.
- August Meriot and Mitchell Evans evened the score at 1-1 for the Shoremen with an 8-5 win against Slade Dumas and Elliot Diehl at No. 3.
- Frankie Mullinix and Omosesan Adebamgbe put Goucher in front, 2-1, with their 8-5 win over Koby Bonta and Kyle Hickey at No. 2. 

- Brian Kane defeated Andrew Smith, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1, at No. 6 for a 3-1 Goucher lead.
- Mullinix beat Hickey, 6-1, 3-0, (retired) at No. 3 to increase the advantage to 4-1.
- The Shoremen picked up the final three points as Meriot beat Adebamgbe, 8-2, at No.4; Sandler bested Herman, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2; and Bonta downed Dumas, 8-3, at No. 5.

- The Gophers improved to 3-3 with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 0-2 with the loss.
