Shorewomen 50-50 In Twinbill Versus Bears

Harcum Tosses Complete Game Win In Game One

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Ursinus and host Washington College split a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Washington College Softball Field.  The Shorewomen won game one, 1-0, while the Bears took game two, 6-0.  It was the conference opener for both the Shorewomen and Bears.

Washington College 1 Ursinus 0 (Game 1)

How It Happened
- Washington scored the game's lone run in the last of the fifth inning when with one away Allyson Meil slapped a single past the Ursinus shortstop Morgan Comfort to plate Regan Horan.  With runners on second and third with one out, Taylor Harcum hit a fly ball to shallow center and Leah Stokes tagged up from third to try to score, but the throw from Ursinus' centerfielder Sam Garritano to catcher Renee LeClerc was in time as LeClerc applied the tag to get Stokes and complete the double play to keep the game at 1-0.
- The Bears got a two-out double down the left field line by Heather Lazer with two out in the top of the sixth, but she was stranded at second as Harcum got LeClerc to ground out to Alli Saul at third to end the frame.
- Down to its final out in the top of the seventh, Ursinus' Gabby Manto hit a bloop single down the left field line and took second on a throwing error by Washington.  However Harcum would strike out Comfort swinging to end the game and give Washington a one-run win.

For The Shorewomen (8-11, 1-0 CC)
- Hitting: Horan (1-for-2, run), Meil (1-for-3, RBI).
- Pitching: Harcum (win 4-7, complete game, three hits, zero runs, three walks, six strikeouts)
- Washington committed one error in game one.
- The Shorewomen had four hits and drew two walks in the game, while leaving four on base.

For The Bears (8-5, 0-1 CC)
- Hitting: Heather Lazer (1-for-1), Manto (2-for-3)
- Pitching: Kaitlyn Willis (loss 4-3, complete game, four hits, one run, one earned, two walks, eight strikeouts)
- Ursinus did not commit an error.
-The Bears had three hits, drew three walks and had one player reach via hit by pitch, while stranding seven on base.

- Harcum was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player of the Game during the broadcast.
- Elaina DiPrimio had her eight-game hitting streak snapped, but extended her streak of reaching base to 14 with a walk in the last of the fourth.

Ursinus 6 Washington College 0 (Game 2)

How It Happened
- With one away in the top of the first, Garritano singled up the middle to score both Comfort and Kayla Quinn to give the Bears a quick 2-0 lead.
- Ursinus added to its lead with three in the top of the second.  Comfort helped her own cause with a one out base hit through the right side to score Alyssa Myers to push the lead to 3-0.  With two away, Sammi Donato scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0 and Comfort scored on a Lazer infield hit to shortstop to cap the scoring and give the guests a five-run lead. 
- The Bears pushed the lead to 6-0 as Lazer was hit with the bases loaded and it forced in Myers in the top of the sixth.

For The Shorewomen (8-12, 1-1 CC)
- Hitting: Gabrielle Edwards (2-for-3), DiPrimio (1-for-2, walk)
- Pitching: Rachel Butler (loss 4-4, four innings, six hits, five runs, four earned, two walks, two strikeouts),
- The Shorewomen had seven hits in the game and drew one walk as they left seven on base.
- WC had two errors in the field, leading to one Ursinus run.

For Ursinus (9-5, 1-1 CC)
- Hitting: Garritano and Lazer (1-for-3, two RBI), Comfort (1-for-3, two runs, RBI, walk), Donato (2-for-4, run), Myers (two runs), Quinn (two walks)
- Pitching: Bischoff (loss 1-3, complete game, two hits, zero runs, no walks, six strikeouts)
- The Bears had seven hits and worked out two walks in the second game as they left nine on base
- Ursinus committed two errors in the field, but did not lead to any unearned runs.

- Edwards was named was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player of the Game during the broadcast.
- Washington had its 12-game winning streak versus Ursinus snapped in the second game.  The Bears last win in the series was a 4-2 victory in game two of the doubleheader on April 5, 2012.  It was the second longest winning streak against a conference rival as the Shorewomen won 13 in a row over Swarthmore from 1995-2000.
- DiPrimio extended her reaching base streak to 15 straight contests.
