Catholic Wins Game One 9-4, Washington Takes Game Two, 5-2

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Senior Taylor Harcum (Hebron, Md./Mardela) became the 23rd Washington College softball player to record 100 career hits on a two-run single in game two as host Washington and visiting Catholic split a non-conference softball doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Washington College Softball Field.  The Cardinals won game one, 9-4, while the Shorewomen took game two, 5-2, in five innings due to darkness.

How It Happened
- The Cardinals took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a two-out, three-run home run down the left field line by Megan Colline that also scored Taylor Forgen and Hailey Horton.  The next hitter, Alyssa Keane socked a solo home run over the right field fence to give Catholic a four-run lead.
- Catholic tacked on another run in the top of the fourth when Giselle Diaz scored from second base on a groundout to push its lead to 5-0.
- Washington broke onto the scoreboard with two outs in the bottom of the fifth when Maddie Bennett worked out a bases loaded walk on a full count to force home Grace Moery.  The next hitter, Regan Horan smacked a two-run single to right-center to score both Allyson Meil and Elaina DiPrimio to trim the visitors' lead to 5-3 and sent Gabrielle Edwards to the plate as the go ahead run.  However, Catholic pitcher Kelly Lynch got Edwards to foul out to the catcher, Keane, to end the inning.
- In the top of the sixth, the Cardinals got those three runs right back to re-take their five run lead as with nobody out Makayla Czan socked a three-run home run over the left-center field fence to give Catholic an 8-3 cushion.  Scoring ahead of Czan were Sophie Maccarone and Forgen.
- Each team scored a run in the seventh inning to provide the final margin.

For The Shorewomen (8-17)
- Hitting: Horan (2-for-4, two RBI), Bennett (2-for-2, two walks), DiPrimio (2-for-3, walk)
- Pitching: Harcum (loss 4-10, 4 1/3 innings, six hits, five runs, five earned, four walks, three strikeouts)
- Washington committed zero errors in game one.
- The Shorewomen had 11 hits and drew one walk in the game, while leaving six on base.

For The Cardinals (14-11)
- Hitting: Czan (2-for-5, home run, three RBI), Horton (2-for-3), Colline (three RBI, home run), Diaz (two runs), Forgen (2-for-3, two runs, two RBI, walk)
- Pitching: Lynch (win 8-5, six innings, eight hits, three runs, three earned, five walks, four strikeouts)
- Catholic committed one error, but did not lead to a Washington run.
- The Cardinals had 11 hits and seven walks, while stranding nine on base.

- Bennett was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player of the Game during the broadcast.

Washington College 5 Catholic 2 (Game 2 – 5 Innings)

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen scored the game's opening run in the last of the first on a one out base hit up the middle by DiPrimio with one out to score Allyson Meil.  Washington scored in the bottom of the second to go ahead 2-0 on a two-out base hit through the right side by Leah Stokes that chased in Julia Hallman.
- Washington exploded for three runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 5-0.  With one away, Rachel Butler scored on a dropped ball to make it 3-0 and Harcum plated a pair on a base hit up the middle for her 100th career hit.  Caroline Braungard and Stokes scored on Harcum's milestone hit.
- In the top of the fifth, Catholic scored twice before the game was called due to darkness.  With nobody out, Horton singled to right to score Sabrina Scott to trim the lead to 5-1.  With one away, Juliet Lodes worked out a bases loaded walk to force in Forgen.  The Cardinals had the go ahead run at the plate, but WC pitcher Bennett got a strikeout and a ground out to end the threat.  The game was called following the top of the fifth due to darkness.

For The Shorewomen (9-17)
- Hitting: Meil (2-for-3, run), Harcum (two RBI), DiPrimio (1-for-2, walk)
- Pitching: Bennett (win 1-1, five innings, four hits, two runs, two earned, five walks, seven strikeouts)
- The Shorewomen had seven hits in the game and drew one walk as they left six on base.
- WC had zero errors in the field.

For Catholic (14-12)
- Hitting: Horton (1-for-3, RBI), Forgen (1-for-2, run)
- Pitching: Scott (loss 3-5, complete game, seven hits, five runs, one earned, one walk, zero strikeouts)
- The Cardinals had four hits and worked out five walks in the second game as they left seven on base
- Catholic committed four errors in the field, leading to four unearned runs for Washington.

- Harcum was named was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player of the Game during the broadcast.  She is the second Washington player to notch 100 career hits this season as DiPrimio registered her centennial hit on March 3 versus Clarkson.
