Shorewomen Have Their Way With Red Devils, 69-43

Hubley Totals 13 Points, Eight Rebounds and Career-High Eight Assists

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Junior guard Emily Hubley (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) tallied game-highs of 13 points, which tied for game-high, eight rebounds and also a career-best eight assists as host Washington College topped visiting Dickinson, 69-43, on Saturday afternoon at the Cain Athletic Center in a Centennial Conference women's basketball game.  The Shorewomen improve to 6-13 overall and 5-8 in the Centennial Conference, while the Red Devils fall to 4-14 and 1-12 respectively.  The 69 points for WC was the most since scoring 88 points versus Bryn Mawr on November 25.

Dickinson led 11-8 with 13:35 left in the first half on a Sarah Phillips layup when Washington went on a 10-0 run to take an 18-11 lead with 8:46 left in the half on a three-pointer by senior guard Katie Bay (Downington, Pa./Downingtown West).  The Shorewomen took the lead for good with 12:31 remaining in the first on a layup by sophomore forward Carley Kendall (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area).  A Bay lay-in gave the Shorewomen their first double-digit lead of the game at 22-12 with 7:18 remaining in the first half.  The hosts took a 13-point lead into the break at 32-19 courtesy of two Kendall free throws with 21 ticks left in the opening frame.

The Shorewomen outscored the Red Devils, 22-8, to open the second half to grab a 54-27 lead with 8:54 remaining in the game on a pair of free throws by senior guard Kelly Mitchell (Laurel, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross).  Washington led by as many as 31 points in the game, 63-32, on a Hubley jumper with 4:04 remaining. 

Mitchell tied Hubley for tops in the contest in points with 13 as she drained three triples.  Senior guard Claire Mattox (Arlington, Va./Potomac School) matched her personal-best in points with 12 on 5-for-6 shooting.  Senior forward Latisha Pledger (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) had two steals to lead the team.  Washington shot 50% from the floor (25-for-50), 50% from three-point land (5-for-10) and 82% from the foul line (14-for-17).  WC held a 44-23 advantage on the boards in the game and had a 31-19 edge in bench points.  Washington scored 10 of the game's 12 second-chance points and outscored the Red Devils 17-13 in points off of turnovers, despite committing 24 turnovers to just 19 for Dickinson.

Jennifer Smith scored nine points to lead the Red Devils and tallied a game-high four steals.  Sam Kennedy and Mary Martin registered three steals for the guests as they notched 16 steals in the game.  Dickinson shot 34% in the game (17-for-50), 18% from the three-point range (2-for-11) and 35% from the free throw stripe (7-for-20).  Dickinson scored all six points in transition and had a 24-18 edge in points in the paint.

Washington has won seven of the last eight games against Dickinson and recorded its third season sweep of Dickinson in the past four years.

The Shorewomen are off until next Saturday when they travel to Franklin & Marshall for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off in Centennial Conference action.
