Mules Bounce Shorewomen, 21-14

Shipley Scores Five Goals for WC

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Muhlenberg's Amanda McGovern had five goals and five assists as the visiting Mules downed host Washington College, 21-14, on Saturday afternoon at Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse action in the season finale for both squads. The Mules finish the season at 9-6 overall and 4-5 in conference play with the win, while the Shorewomen end the campaign at 8-7 overall and 3-6 with the loss.

After Washington jumped out to a quick 2-0 just 1:38 into the game on a goal by freshman Mollie Shipley (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic), Muhlenberg scored 10 of the next 13 goals to grab a 10-5 lead with 8:25 left in the first half on a Christine Van Hise tally. The Shorewomen scored the next four goals by junior attacker Sarah Cannon (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep), freshman attacker Corinne Ziccardi (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven), sophomore attacker Liza Twilley (Salisbury, MD/Salisbury School) and Shipley respectively to cut the Mules' lead to 10-9 with 2:13 left. Muhlenberg would score two goals in the last 11 seconds of the first half to take a 12-9 lead into halftime on tallies by Danielle Scarrone and Molly Davin respectively.

After Ziccardi scored the first goal of the second half 3:22 in to cut the Mules lead to 12-10, the guests would score the next seven goals to take a 19-10 lead with 11:03 left on a Danielle Rosen goal. WC would score four of the next five goals to cut it to 20-14 with 5:06 left on Shipley's fifth goal of the contest. The Mules tallied the last goal with 1:45 left on a score by Alyssa Bascelli.

For the Mules, Davin had four goals and two assists for six points, Bascelli and Van Hise had three goals and one helper, while Scarrone had two tallies and one assist. Allisyn Vachon made 12 saves in goal for Muhlenberg.

Shipley tallied five goals and Ziccardi scored three times for the Shorewomen. Junior midfielder Sam Ohrem (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) and sophomore attacker Kalli Parrish (Timonium, MD/McDonogh School) had two assists each, while Ohrem added a goal for WC. Junior goalie Amber Madore (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) turned away nine shots for the hosts.

Muhlenberg held the edge in shots 35-29 and ground balls, 21-19. Washington held a 21-15 edge in draw controls. The Mules were 16-for-20 in clears and 5-for-7 in free position shots, while the Shorewomen were 11-for-13 in clears and 1-for-1 in free position shots.

Three seniors played in their final game in a Washington uniform this afternoon. They were attacker Catherine Habel (Gaithersburg, MD/Watkins Mill), goalkeeper Tara Hart (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest) and midfielder Allie Hanzsche (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales).
