Shorewomen Handle Goucher, 19-10; Off to Best Start in Eight Years

Bartee Paces Offense with Four Goals, Assist

TOWSON, MD -- The Washington College women's lacrosse team improved to 4-0 with a 19-10 non-conference victory at Goucher College tonight. Junior midfielder Rachel Bartee (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) paced the Shorewomen with four goals and one assist in the win. Washington's 4-0 start is the team's best since opening the 2003 season with nine consecutive victories. 

The Shorewomen scored twice in the first two minutes of the game as junior attacker Kalli Parrish (Timonium, MD/McDonogh School) scored 56 seconds in and senior attacker Sarah Cannon (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) found Bartee for a goal with 28:00 on the clock. Washington held a 6-4 lead with under 13 minutes left in the first half before the Shorewomen scored three of the final four goals of the half to extend the lead to 9-5 on a goal by sophomore midfielder Marissa Restaino (Media, PA/Penncrest) off an assist from Cannon with 17 seconds to go. 

Washington scored the first three goals of the second half as the advantage ballooned to seven goals at 12-5 on a free-position tally by Parrish with 19:38 remaining. The Shorewomen led by at least six goals the rest of the way and saw their lead grow to as many as 12 before the Gophers (3-3) scored the final three goals of the contest. 

Parrish led a balanced Washington offense that saw five other players - Cannon, Parrish, freshman midfielder Carly Eisenbrandt (Baltimore, MD/Towson), sophomore attacker Corinne Ziccardi (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven), and  junior attacker Liza Twilley (Salisbury, MD/Salisbury School) - score two goals each. Cannon added three assists, Eisenbrandt had two, and Ziccardi added one. 

Andi Lipson, Erin Reifsnyder, and Hannah Khin each scored two goals to lead Goucher. 

The Shorewomen held a 39-25 advantage in shots in the game. Goucher held a 17-14 advantage in ground balls.

Washington returns to action Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. home game against Bridgewater.
