Red Devils Slow Down Shorewomen, 7-6

Ziccardi Scores Three Goals, Tallies Assist in Loss

CARLISLE, PA -- Host Dickinson College got the game-winning goal with under six minutes to play and possessed the ball for the final 2:43 of the game en route to a 7-6 Centennial Conference women's lacrosse victory over visiting Washington College this afternoon in Carlisle, PA.

Dickinson (6-6, 3-2 Centennial) took a 1-0 lead on a free-position goal by Megan Taylor with 22:17 remaining in the first half. The Red Devils netted their second goal when Kaity Moore found Ella Clough for a score with 20:13 to go in the period. Washington (7-4, 3-4) got on the board on a free-position goal by junior attacker Corinne Ziccardi (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) with 14:10 left in the half, and leveled the score at 2-2 on another Ziccardi free-position goal with 11:11 on the clock. Ziccardi's third unanswered free-position goal gave the Shorewomen their first lead of the game with 8:34 to go in the first. Dickinson answered with a goal by Clough off an assist from Taylor with 7:08 left. The Red Devils regained the lead on a goal by Linzi Burstein with just one second left in the first half.

Dickinson extended its lead to 5-3 on another Burstein goal off an assist from Cloguh with 26:30 to go in the second half. The Red Devils' lead grew to 6-3 on a free-position goal by Clare Manoli with 17:48 left, but the Shorewomen got back to within one goal on back-to-back goals by freshman midfielder Emily Hubley (West Chester, PA/Bayard Rustin) - the first off an assist from ZIccardi with 15:43 to go and the second 26 seconds later. Washington knotted the score at 6-6 on a goal by sophomore midfielder Carly Eisenbrandt (Baltimore, MD/Towson) with 7:40 remaining.

The Red Devils took the lead back for good when Burstein found Manoli for a goal with 5:35 left. Eisenbrandt had a shot saved by Amanda Morse with 2:46 to go. Taylor scooped up the ensuing ground ball three seconds later. Dickinson called timeout and then cleared the ball and was able to run out the clock without attempting a shot or turning the ball over.

Burstein and Clough led the Red Devils with two goals and one assist each. Manoli also finished with two goals for Dickinson, while Morse made eight saves.

Ziccardi led all players with three goals and one assist in the loss. Hubley scored on both of her shots; she has now scored on each of her last 11 shots.

Dickinson held a slim 18-17 advantage in shots in the game and dominated draws, controlling 10 of the game's 14.

The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Haverford.
