CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College women's lacrosse head coach Kate Fowler has named senior defender Kayla Catts (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional), senior midfielder Aubrey Robinson (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett) and junior midfielder Anna Bennett (Phoenix, Md./Garrison Forest) as team captains for the 2020 campaign. All three are serving as captain of Shorewomen Lacrosse for the first time.
Catts, a mainstay on the defense the past two seasons, started in all 18 games for the Shorewomen last season and scooped up a career-best 19 ground balls and added a pair of caused turnovers and one draw control. In 44 career games, 37 starts, she has 33 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers and a draw control to her credit.
Robinson had a strong 2019 with 36 goals and three assists for 39 points on her way to earning All-Centennial Conference second team honors as she was third on the Shorewomen in goals and fifth in points. The senior was tops on the team in free position goals with 10, which was good for ninth in the Centennial. She also won 21 draws, picked up 13 ground balls and notched seven caused turnovers as she played in 18 contests with 11 starting assignments. In 53 career games, 31 starts, she has 87 points on 70 goals and 17 helpers to go along with 56 draw controls.
Bennett delivered a solid all-around season last spring as she had 41 draw controls, 25 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers to go along with 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points in 15 contests, 10 starts, a season ago. In 32 career contests, 19 starts, Bennett has 20 goals and 18 assists for 38 points, while winning 90 draws, scooping up 57 ground balls and tallying 47 caused turnovers.
The Shorewomen will open up their 2020 season on Wednesday, February 19 when they host York (Pa.), a 2019 NCAA Tournament team, at 4:00 p.m.
