CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Sixe members of the Washington College women's rowing team - Kelsie Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), Kendall Mulligan (Southbury, CT/Westover School), Rachel Benders (Cleveland Heights, OH/Beaumont School), Carly Ogren (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock), Emily Sahadeo (College Park, MD/Elizabeth Seton), and Abigail Thomas (Hughesville, MD/Thomas Stone) - have been named College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division III National Scholar-Athletes for the 2011-12 season.
The National Scholar-Athlete Award is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains. The criteria include participating in their second, third, or fourth year of eligibility, participating in her institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event, and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher through the fall semester of the current season.
Jensen and Mulligan, who graduated from Washington College on Sunday, are three-time honorees. Benders, who will be a senior in the fall, is a two-time Scholar-Athlete, while Ogren, Sahadeo, and Thomas - all rising juniors - are first-time honorees.
