Shorewomen Finish in Top Half of All Three of Their Races
LORTON, VA -- The Washington College women's rowing team had an impressive showing at the Head of the Occoquan today in Lorton, VA. The Shorewomen had a total of four boats competing in three events against mostly Division I varsity teams and club teams from Division I schools and finished in the top half in each race.
In the collegiate eight, the Shorewomen finished 15th of 34 boats in 18:24.59 and were the only Division III boat to finish in the top 20. Georgetown won the race in 17:04.93, Navy was second in 17:07.36, and George Washington was third in 17:11.11.
Junior Abigail Thomas (Hughesville, MD/Thomas Stone) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's collegiate eight. Sophomore Kelly Bird (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) sat stroke, sophomore Krystal Brostek (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) was in the seven seat, senior Kate Fiori (Boston, MA/Dana Hall School) was in the six seat, junior Valeria DiLisi (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) sat in the five seat, sophomore Taira Sullivan (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) was in the four seat, senior Rachel Benders (Cleveland Heights, OH/Beaumont School) sat in the three seat, junior Emily Sahadeo (College Park, MD/Elizabeth Seton) was in the two seat, and sophomore Ashley Myles (Chester Springs, PA/Owen J. Roberts) was the bow.
Washington had two boats entered in the collegiate four. The Shorewomen's "A" boat was the top Division III finisher, placing 10th of 31 crews in 20:18.29. Their "B" boat was 25th in 22:23.85. George Mason won the race in 19:16.13. Duquesne's "A" and "B" boats took second and third, respectively, at 19:21.46 and 19:38.79.
Sophomore Christie Phebus (Trappe, MD/Easton) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's "A" boat in the collegiate four. Senior Lauren Halla (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) sat stroke, freshman Giavonella Knapp (Vineland, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy) was in the three seat, freshman Rachel Loetzbeier (Allentown, PA/Moravian Academy) sat in the two seat, and junior Ellie Hilton (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) was the bow.
Sophomore Samantha Mason (Preston, CT/Norwich Free Academy) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's "B" boat in the collegiate four. Freshman Leslie Rothstein (Lower Merion, PA/Lower Merion) sat stroke, freshman Kayla Noll (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) was in the three seat, sophomore Rocio Valdes (Washington, DC/Edmund Burke School) sat in the two seat, and junior Allie Everhart (New Market, MD/Linganore) was the bow.
In the collegiate novice eight, the Shorewomen were 13th in 21:49.40 and were the top Division III boat. Navy won the race in 18:25.72, Duquesne was second in 18:44.69, and George Washington was third in 18:49.23.
Freshman Jaclyn Gibbons (Hingham, MA/Hingham) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's collegiate novice eight. Freshman Kelly Dobroski (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville Area) sat stroke, freshman Charlotte Cugnini (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) was in the seven seat, freshman Lily Britt (Tamarac, FL/Pompano Beach) sat in the six seat, freshman Lauren Bacharach (Boxborough, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional) was in the five seat, freshman Michaela Martino (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) was in the four seat, freshman Kelsey Hannah (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) sat in the three seat, freshman Anna Windle (Elkton, MD/Elkton) was in the two seat, and freshman Marcela Morales (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) was the bow.
Today's regatta marked the end of the Shorewomen's fall season.
