Fifth-Ranked Wellesley Wins Both Races Against Seventh-Ranked Shorewomen

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Fifth-ranked Wellesley College won a pair of races against seventh-ranked Washington College in non-conference women's rowing action on a foggy Chester River Saturday morning.

After a one-hour delay due to the fog, the races were conducted on a shortened course due to fog staying put near the normal starting line. The second varsity eight was between 1600 and 1700 meters, while the varsity eight was even shorter. Wellesley's "A" boat won the second varsity eight in 6:51, the Shorewomen were second in 6:55, Wellesley "B" was third in 6:59, and Wellesley "C" was fourth in 7:14. In the varsity eight, Wellesley finished in 6:05, while Washington finished in 6:24.

Junior Christie Phebus (Trappe, Md./Easton) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's varsity eight. Junior Kelly bird (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) sat stroke, senior Val DiLisi (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) was in the seven seat, freshman Diana Lucey (Bristol, R.I./St. Mary Academy-Bay View) sat in the six seat, junior Mickey Fili (Sparks, Md./Hereford) was in the five seat, senior Ellie Hilton (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) was in the four seat, freshman Madeleine Morrissette (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) sat in the three seat, junior Ashley Myles (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) was in the two seat, and freshman Hannah Sive (Glenville, N.Y./Niskayuna) was the bow.

Junior Samantha Mason (Preston, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's second varsity eight. Sophomore Maggie Perry (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) sat stroke, junior Krystal Brostek (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) was in the seven seat, junior Taira Sullivan (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) sat in the six seat, freshman Jackie Creitz (Schencksville, Pa./Parkland) was in the five seat, freshman Erin Coffman (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) sat in the four seat, sophomore Jennie Knapp (Vineland, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) was in the three seat, freshman Annie Sniffen (Havertown, Pa./Lower Merion) sat in the two seat, and freshman Megan Prokopius (Chesapeake, Va./Bishop Sullivan) was the bow. 

The Shorewomen return to action next Saturday when they host Philadelphia University and Villanova on the Chester River.
