WORCESTER, Mass. -- The ninth-ranked Washington College competed at the ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships today on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. Eleven of the current 15 nationally-ranked Division III teams competed at the regatta, including all of the top 10. The Shorewomen's first varsity eight advanced to its grand final and placed sixth overall.
The Shorewomen's first varsity eight was second in its heat in 6:46.296. Third-ranked Williams was first in 6:43.490, fifth-ranked William Smith third in 6:46.395, Hamilton fourth in 6:56.612, New Hampshire fifth in 7:00.750, and Simmons sixth in 7:10.975. In the grand final, the Shorewomen placed sixth in 7:08.516. Second-ranked Bates won the race in 6:51.316, Williams was second in 6:54.993, top-ranked Trinity third in 6:56.631, fourth-ranked Wellesley fourth in 7:02.894, and seventh-ranked Wesleyan fifth in 7:05.908.
In the second varsity eight, the Shorewomen were fourth in their four-boat heat in 7:40.070 to advance to the petite final. Wesleyan won the heat in 7:14.461, William Smith was second in 7:19.730, Colby third in 7:28.272, and Mount Holyoke fifth in 7:51.542. In the petite final, Washington was sixth in 7:28.004. Hamilton won the petite final in 7:12.358, sixth-ranked Ithaca was second in 7:15.062, Colby third in 7:18.900, eighth-ranked Tufts fourth in 7:22.553, and Simmons fifth in 7:25.932.
The Shorewomen also competed in the women's open four, a final-only event, and finished sixth of seven boats in 8:37.182. Bates won the race in 7:55.513, New Hampshire was second in 7:55.775, William Smith third in 8:02.363, St. Lawrence fourth in 8:04.395, Connecticut College fifth in 8:30.895, and Coast Guard seventh in 8:38.972.
Junior Christie Phebus (Trappe, Md./Easton) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's first varsity eight. Junior Kelly Bird (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) sat stroke, freshman Hannah Sive (Glenville, N.Y./Niskayuna) was in the seven seat, junior Mickey Fili (Sparks, Md./Hereford) sat in the six seat, junior Taira Sullivan (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) was in the five seat, freshman Madeleine Morrissette (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) sat in the four seat, senior Ellie Hilton (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) was in the three seat, senior Val DiLisi (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) was in the two seat, and junior Ashley Myles (Chester Spring, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) was the bow.

Sophomore Maggie Perry (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) sat stroke, junior Krystal Brostek (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) was in the seven seat, senior Emily Sahadeo (College Park, Md./Elizabeth Seton) sat in the six seat, freshman Jackie Creitz (Schencksville, Pa./Parkland) was in the five seat, freshman Erin Coffman (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) sat in the four seat, freshman Megan Prokopius (Chesapeake, Va./Bishop Sullivan)was in the three seat, freshman Annie Sniffen (Havertown, Pa./Lower Merion) sat in the two seat, and sophomore Jennie Knapp (Vineland, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) was the bow.
Sophomore Jaclyn Gibbons (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's varsity four. Freshman Hannah Cagle (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) sat stroke, freshman Danielle Huston Hakey (Waldorf, Md./Calverton School) was in the three seat, freshman Diana Lucey (Bristol, R.I./St. Mary Academy-Bay View) was in the two seat, and sophomore Michaela Martino (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) was the bow.
The Shorewomen return to action at the NCAA Division III Championships in Indianapolis May 30th and 31st.
