Shorewomen Also Compete in Collegiate Fours, Club Fours
BOSTON, Mass. -- The Washington College women's rowing team finished an impressive fifth of 30 boats in the women's collegiate eights at the Head of the Charles today in Boston, the Shorewomen's best-ever finish in that race. The Shorewomen also competed in the women's collegiate fours and women's club fours yesterday.
The Shorewomen finished the women's collegiate eights race in 17:51.227. Bates won the race in 17:25.603, Trinity was second in 17:27.371, Wellesley third in 17:42.663, and Grand Valley State fourth in 17:47.229. This was Washington's first appearance in the women's collegiate eight since 2010, when the Shorewomen placed 20th of 31 boats.
On Saturday, the Shorewomen competed in the women's collegiate fours and the women's club fours. Washington was 27th of 36 boats in the women's collegiate fours in 20:28.886. Barry University won the race in 18:22.326. The Shorewomen were 56th of 59 boats in the women's club fours Saturday, finishing in 22:29.209. Fordham turned in the winning time of 18:19.191.
Junior Jaclyn Gibbons (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's collegiate eight. Senior Kelly Bird (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) sat stroke, sophomore Madeleine Morrissette (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) was in the seven seat, senior Ashley Myles (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) was in the six seat, senior Mickey Fili (Sparks, Md./Hereford) sat in the five seat, senior Taira Sullivan (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) was in the four seat, sophomore Jackie Creitz (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) sat in the three seat, freshman Jules Shipps (Baltimore, Md./Gunston School) was in the two seat, and senior Krystal Brostek (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) was the bow.
Freshman Grace Kim (Accokeek, Md./St. John's College H.S. [D.C.]) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's collegiate four. Junior Maggie Perry (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) sat stroke, sophomore Megan Prokopius (Chesapeake, Va./Bishop Sullivan) was in the three seat, sophomore Diana Lucey (Bristol, R.I./St. Mary Academy-Bay View) sat in the two seat, and junior Jennie Knapp (Vineland, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy) was the bow.
Junior Monica Benitez (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's club four. Sophomore Danielle Huston Hakey (Waldorf, Md./Calverton School) sat stroke, sophomore Annie Sniffen (Havertown, Pa./Lower Merion) was in the three seat, sophomore Erin Coffman (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) was in the two seat, and junior Michaela Martino (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) was the bow.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia.
