WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The eighth-ranked Washington College women's rowing team won both the Division III varsity eight and Division III second varsity eight at the Knecht Cup this weekend in West Windsor, N.J.
The Shorewomen's first varsity eight won a seven-boat race in 7:14.80. Crews from fellow Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference took the next three spots as Marietta was second in 7:17.41, Franklin & Marshall third in 7:29.26, and Bryn Mawr fourth in 7:37.93. Crews from club teams made up the rest of the field as Mary Washington was fifth in 8:01.71, Susquehanna sixth in 8:07.84, and Carnegie Mellon seventh in 8:47.87.
The Shorewomen raced both their second and third varsity eights in the Division III second varsity eight. The Shorewomen's second varsity eight won the race in 7:45.08, while the third varsity eight was second in 8:24.41. Franklin & Marshall was third in 8:55.78
Senior Christie Phebus (Trappe, Md./Easton) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's first varsity eight. Senior Kelly Bird (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) sat stroke, sophomore Madeleine Morrissette (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) was in the seven seat, senior Ashley Myles (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) sat in the six seat, senior Mickey Fili (Sparks, Md./Hereford) was in the five seat, senior Taira Sullivan (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) sat in the four seat, sophomore Jackie Creitz (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) was in the three seat, senior Krystal Brostek (Galloway, N.J./Absegami) sat in the two seat, and sophomore Hannah Sive (Glenville, N.Y./Niskayuna) was the bow.
Junior Jaclyn Gibbons (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's second varsity eight. Junior Maggie Perry (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) sat stroke, freshman Jules Shipps (Baltimore, Md./Gunston School) was in the seven seat, sophomore Danielle Huston Hakey (Waldorf, Md./Calverton School) sat in the six seat, sophomore Megan Prokopius (Chesapeake, Va./Bishop Sullivan) was in the five seat, junior Michaela Martino (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) sat in the four seat, sophomore Annie Sniffen (Havertown, Pa./Lower Merion) was in the three seat, sophomore Elizabeth Twigg (Crofton, Md./Arundel) sat in the two seat, and junior Jennie Knapp (Vineland, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) was the bow.
Freshman Grace Kim (Accokeek, Md./St. John's College H.S. [D.C.]) was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's third varsity eight, which competed in the Division III second varsity eight as the Shorewomen's "B" boat. Sophomore Hannah Cagle (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) sat stroke, sophomore Erin Coffman (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) was in the seven seat, freshman Annie Grosscup (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) was in the six seat, freshman Kerri Walsh (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel) sat in the five seat, freshman Abbey Wark (Runnemede, N.J./Triton Regional) was in the four seat, freshman Mackenzie Gaze (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) sat in the three seat, freshman Joelle Williamson (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor) was in the two seat, and freshman Brenna Kacar (Dunkirk, Md./Bishop McNamara) was the bow.
The Shorewomen return to action Saturday at the Kerr Cup in Philadelphia.
