CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Washington College's first varsity eight has been named the inaugural Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Women's Crew of the Week. In addition, the Shorewomen have checked in at 12th in this season's first USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division III Top 15.
The Shorewomen's first varsity eight made its spring racing debuting on Sunday, winning a three-boat race at the Bryn Mawr/Cabrini Invitational. The Shorewomen finished in 7:16 with Bryn Mawr coming in second in 7:29 and St. Mary's third in 7:30.
Sophomore Olivia Robb (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) was the coxswain, senior Jules Shipps (Wye Mills, Md./Gunston School) sat stroke, sophomore Erika Reynolds (Finksburg, Md./Notre Dame Prep) was in the seven seat, freshman Gabrielle Francis (Laurelton, N.Y./Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences) was in the six seat, senior Kerri Walsh (Crestwood, N.Y./Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel) sat in the five seat, junior Kelin McCloskey (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) was in the four seat, sophomore Breanna Lanphear (Nottingham, Md./Perry Hall) sat in the three seat, junior Karis Marano (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) was in the two seat, and junior Leslie Collins (Newark, Del./Ursuline Academy) was the bow.
The Shorewomen are the five-time defending MARC Women's Champions and have rowed in the past five NCAA Division III Championships. They are the only MARC school to be ranked or received votes in the current USRowing/CRCA Top 15. Defending National Champion Bates College is the unanimous top-ranked school in the poll.
The Shorewomen return to action at this Saturday's Murphy Cup in Philadelphia.
