Shorewomen Fall to Marymount, Defeat Lycoming
ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Washington College volleyball team split a non-conference tri-match at host Marymount University today, falling to the host Saints, 25-16, 25-8, 25-19, before defeating Lycoming, 18-25, 25-16, 25-17, 27-25. The Shorewomen are now 10-2 on the season, while Marymount, which also defeated Lycoming on the afternoon, is 14-2, and Lycoming is 9-7.
Marymount hit .321 as a team against the Shorewomen (32 kills, seven errors, 78 attempts), while Washington was in the negative at -.050 (24 kills, 29 errors, 101 attempts). Emileigh Rettig led the Saints with nine kills against one error in 24 attempts. Morgan McAlpin added seven kills and five blocks, including three solo blocks. Junior outside hitter Kristin Lee (Dayton, Md./River Hill) had eight kills in the loss for the Shorewomen, while freshman setter Sarah Bentley (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and freshman defensive specialist Amy Rohn (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) had a team-best nine digs each. Bentley also had a match-best 19 assists.
After dropping the first set to Lycoming, Washington came back to win the next two sets and scored the final three sets of the fourth to take the match. Lee had match bests of 13 kills and four blocks, while junior right-side hitter Jess Daunoras (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) and sophomore right-side hitter Alexis Jordan (Royal Palm Beach, Fla./Seminole Ridge) had 10 kills a piece. Daunoras also had three blocks. Rohn served a match-best five aces and had a match-high 13 digs, while Bentley tallied 35 assists. The Warriors got 10 kills each from Lauren Fink, Bethany Richardson, and Kristine Jahn in the loss. Jahn also had 11 digs. Catherine Burger finished with a match-high 39 assists for Lycoming.
The Shorewomen return to action Wednesday with their Centennial Conference and home opener, a 7:00 p.m. match against Johns Hopkins.
