LANCASTER, Pa. – The Washington College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in four sets on Saturday afternoon in a tri-match at the Mayser Center with host Franklin & Marshall and Washington and Lee.  The Shorewomen fell to the Diplomats in a Centennial Conference match, 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19), in the opening match of the day and in the second match fell to the Generals, 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-18, 25-10). 

Franklin & Marshall 3 Washington College 1 (21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 19-25)

How It Happened
-Up 18-16, Franklin & Marshall won five of the next six points to take a 23-17 lead on an ace by Shae Murphy.  A block error by Washington on an attack attempt by Barbara Kapustin concluded the first set.
-The Diplomats led 21-20 in the second before scoring four of the final five points to take the set on a kill by Ellie Ezekiel.
-Washington won the final four points of the set to snap a 21-21 tie to keep the match going.  A kill by Jess Daunoras ended the set and the run began on a Kristin Lee kill.
-The Diplomats led 19-18 in the fourth and final set before going on a 6-1 run to end the set and match.  A block by Kapustin and Kelsey Michenko was the clinching point for the hosts.

For The Shorewomen (16-8, 4-4 CC)
-Taylor Horan (39 assists and 10 digs), Lee (12 kills and 9 digs), Daunoras (12 kills and 3 blocks), Alaina Geissberger (11 kills and team-best 4 blocks), Lizzie Baden (4 blocks), Audrey Utchen (18 digs to tie for match-high)
-Washington hit .146 in the match, hitting .323 in the third set win.

For Franklin & Marshall (13-7, 5-3 CC)
-Ezekiel (16 kills to lead all players and 17 digs), Kapustin (14 kills), Rachel Umberger (12 kills), Michenko (5 blocks to lead all players), Allison Edelstein (43 assists), Alyssa Sanchez (18 digs to tie for tops in the contest)
-F&M hit .229 in the match.

-Horan with her ninth double-double in the past 10 matches and her 13th of the season.

Washington and Lee 3 Washington College 1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-18, 25-10)

How It Happened
-The Generals won the last five points to take the first set, clinching it on an attack error by the Shorewomen.
-Trailing 20-18 in the second set, the Shorewomen won seven of the last eight points to tie the match at a set apiece.  A Daunoras unassisted kill was the set-winning point.
-Washington and Lee led 21-16 in the third set before winning four of the final six points to go on for the seven point win.  A net error by Washington ended the third set.
-Up 3-2 in the fourth set, the Generals won the next six points to take a 9-2 lead on their way to the 15-point win.  Meg Guignon ended the contest on a kill.

For The Shorewomen (16-9)
-Lee (13 kills and 13 digs), Horan (25 assists and 17 digs), Utchen (match-best 20 digs)
-Team hit .106 in the match, including .455 in the second set.

For Washington and Lee (16-10)
-Mackenzie Shand (13 kills), Anna Lausberg (12 kills), Katie Volk (14 digs), Elena West (32 assists), Guignon (15 digs to lead the team)
-Team hit .301 in the win, while serving up 10 aces.

-It was the first meeting between the two schools in volleyball in 24 years and the third all-time meeting.  Washington now leads the all-time series 2-1 as the Shorewomen won in 1989 and 1991.
-Horan now has 14 double-doubles on the year.
